POLICE were sent on a high-speed chase through the streets of Bonteheuwel on Sunday night trying to vang suspects who were fleeing from the cops.

Like something out of an action movie, shots were reportedly fired as police chased the white vehicle from Yellowwood to Pinewood Street and managed to apprehend the suspects at the end.

Councilor Angus McKenzie confirmed the incident but could provide what the circumstances are surrounding the incident.

A video has been making the rounds on social media showing the white vehicle at a standstill as police cars arrive at the scene and officers make their way to the suspects. Members of the community can be seen swarming the scene.

Meanwhile, gatvol community members helped cops nab two members of the American gang, after they were busted for the possession of firearms and 100 mandrax pille in B Block in Braambos Street on 17 September

The brave whistleblower, who asked not to be named, said: "When there is a shooting incident that is happening we contact [councillor McKenzie] and he will contact SAPS, law enforcement and metro police to assist.

"As you know that the gangsters are cruel, and that is why we contact him and give him the relevant information."

Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk confirmed the arrests.

Subcouncil 15 chairperson McKenzie applauded the community for rekking their bek and standing up to fight the ongoing infighting within the American gang.

McKenzie added: “The successes we have achieved across Bonteheuwel are because brave residents are stepping forward, using the tip-off service, and working with SAPS. This must not stop.”
