Man found dead in car on Voortrekker Road

Police are investigating the murder of a 32-year-old Chinese national who was shot and killed on Sunday night in Voortrekker Road.

The incident took place in Townsend Estate around 11.15pm and the circumstances surrounding the murder are unknown and part of an investigation by Goodwood Police.

Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that the Chinese national was declared deceased on the scene.

Twigg reported: ”Goodwood police registered a murder case for investigation following a shooting incident in Voortrekker Road, Townsend Estate, on Sunday night, 21 September 2025, at about 23:15, in which a 32-year-old Chinese national was shot and fatally wounded. 

Police members attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel. The motive for the attack forms part of the police investigation and arrests are yet to be made.”

Goodwood Community Police Forum chairman Abdallah Sydney said that as a CPF they are concerned about the continuous shootings along Voortrekker Road, however action plans are underway to address these concerns. 

He said that they are engaging with police and other stakeholders to strengthen visible policing in the area.

Sydney told the Daily Voice: “At this stage, the circumstances and possible motive remain under police investigation, and it would be premature to speculate until SAPS concludes their inquiries.

"As the CPF, we are indeed concerned about the frequency of shootings along Voortrekker Road. 

"It has become an area of heightened attention, and we are engaging with SAPS and other relevant stakeholders to address safety concerns and to strengthen visible policing in the area.

"There are plans of action in motion to address these concerns.

"We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and urge community members with any information related to the incident to come forward to SAPS.”
