AWEH BRUINCHILD

Celebrate coloured heritage at V&A Waterfront

Marsha Dean|Published

CAPE Town’s biggest celebration of coloured culture heritage is back this Saturday as the Aweh Cultural Showcase returns to the V&A Waterfront with an all-new lineup.

This year, a powerful new partnership between Bruinchild Media and Uthando (Love) South Africa shines a spotlight on Lovenaires Tjommies Sporting Club youth from Hanover Park using sport, music, and mentorship to rise above poverty and violence.

At this free event, The Tjommies Minstrel Group and Cape Malay Choir are set to deliver show-stopping performances that embody resilience, unity, and pride.

Bruinchild founder Alex Cupido said this platform is all about celebrating culture, heritage and talent.

He said: “I created this event last year to show the world that coloured people aren't just drug addicts and gangsters but we are people with talent, a culture and heritage.

"I started Bruinchild media as a non-profit company in 2020 to help aspiring music artists. We create music workshops, music events and do a lot of community work as I come from a very colourful background.

"The Aweh Cultural Showcase is more than a free public event, it’s an invitation to stand together in pride. It’s where history and modern creativity meet."

Last year, over 3000 people came and went throughout the day. This year is promised to be even bigger, louder, and prouder. Don’t miss it.

Bring the whole family to the Waterfront for a great show between 12pm to 3pm.
