ANOTHER taxi driver was gunned down on Sunday evening after an alleged argument with the suspect ensued.

The 41-year-old taxi driver is a member of the Cape Amalgamated Taxi Association (CATA) and was shot and killed inside his taxi in Ntlangano Street, Nyanga before 8pm.

The recent bloody conflict between CATA and rival association Codeta has led to the provincial government shutting down disputed routes between Somerset West and Khayelitsha.

The Department of Mobility at the weekend stated that the corridor would be closed for 30 days from Wednesday, September 17, 2025.

Mobility MEC Isaac Sileku added that if the rival groups could not resolve their war, the shutdown could be extended.

However, according to CATA spokesman Nkululeko Sityebi said this shooting incident is an isolated incident and not taxi related.

Sityebi explained: “We can confirm that the taxi driver was a member of CATA who was driving the Delft-Nyanga route. The driver was shot eight times and there was no one else in the vehicle. This is an isolated shooting incident and not linked to anything taxi related.

"Nothing was removed from the vehicle, everything was still there. The suspect shot the driver and fled the scene.”

According to police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg, a murder case was registered for investigation.

Twigg confirmed: “The circumstances surrounding a shooting incident on Sunday evening, 14 September 2025, at about 19:45, in Ntlangano Street, Nyanga, where a 41 year old male was shot and fatally wounded are under investigation.

Nyanga police attended to the crime scene where they found the victim with gunshot wounds to his body. The victim was declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.

"According to reports the victim had an argument with the suspect before he was shot. The suspect fled the scene and is yet to be arrested. A murder case was registered for investigation.”
