A MOM from Athlone was scammed of R7 000 and left stranded in Brackenfell after paying “contractors” she found on Facebook to set up a wendy house.
Lezuan Smith said she made a bank loan to pay for a 3x6 wendy house, however she has been left in debt and without the wendy house.
Lezuan told the Daily Voice: “On Friday night when I came home, my daughter told me she found a contact of guys who build wendy houses on Facebook.
“I started chatting to a guy named Micheal and he came the next morning at 7am. He told me he needs the money to be able to buy the material for the wendy house.
“I told him that I can’t just give them money, so I need to drive with them.
“Luckily my daughter took a photo of them and the car before we left. He came with two guys who he said are the builders and he left these two men at my house while we went to Brackenfell for the materials.
“These guys are so professional, they made me feel comfortable and they seem so decent.
“When we got to Brackenfell Mall, I withdrew the R7 000 and gave it to them.
“They took me to Brights Hardware and said I must go in the store to choose the doors and windows I want but when I came out they were gone with my money.
“The two guys who they claimed are the builders were still at my house and they said they didn't know these people from nowhere, they just got picked up along the road.”
Lezuan said she got a lift to the Brackenfell police station where she opened up a case. She said that she has been blocked from contacting “Micheal”.
When the Daily Voice contacted “Micheal” and explained the accusations against him, he dropped the call.
Brackenfell SAPS are aware of the case, but are yet to give an official response.
