City of Cape Town traffic services officials prevented a suicide attempt on Sunday morning when a man in his 20s attempted to jump off a footbridge.
According to Traffic services spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout, a man was spotted on the Kalkfontein footbridge over the Stellenbosch Arterial Road.
Traffic services spokesperson Maxine Bezuidenhout says: “The Traffic Service can confirm that officers reported an attempted suicide on Stellenbosch Arterial Road, at the Kalkfontein footbridge.
“A person thought to be in their late 20s tried to jump off the footbridge. Various services responded to the incident and managed to talk the man down.”
She added once the man was calm, he was transported to a police station by cops.
Meanwhile in Sea Point, cops attended to a crime scene early hours of Sunday morning at the Sea Point Promenade and found a body of a deceased man.
According to authorities, it was an apparent suicide by shooting.
Ward councillor Nicola Jowell told the Daily Voice that law enforcement and police officials arrived at the scene, however he was already dead.
Jowell explained: “Around 07:30 this morning a male on the Sea Point Promenade is believed to have taken his own life by means of a gunshot.
"It is terribly sad for him and his family that he felt he had nowhere to turn other than this.”
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that the incident is under investigation.
Van Wyk reported: “Sea Point police registered an inquest for investigation following an incident this morning Sunday, 24 August at about 7am at the Promenade grass area near Beach and Norfolk road, Sea Point.
“The body of a male in his 40s was found with a fatal gunshot wound.”
