Another mass shooting has rocked the Cape and took place in Lower Crossroads, Philippi East on Sunday evening when six people were gunned down resulting in two killed in what police believe to be related to extortion.
The incident took place in Ngqabe Street at around 6.05pm where police found the bodies of two males, aged 35 and 39, riddled with gunshot wounds resulting in them being fatally wounded at the scene.
Meanwhile four others between the ages of 25 and 32 were shot and wounded and managed to survive the attack.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Wesley Twigg confirmed the incident and said that the perpetrators have not yet been arrested.
Twigg report: “Philippi East police registered two counts of murder and four of attempted murder following a shooting incident on Sunday evening, 17 August 2025, at about 6.05pm, in Ngqabe Street, Lower Crossroads, Philippi East, where two males 35 and 39 were shot and fatally wounded and four others between 25 and 32 shot and wounded.
"Police members responded to a complaint of a shooting at the mentioned address and upon arrival on the scene they found the victims with gunshot wounds to their bodies.
"The 35 and 39-year-old victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel, while the other victims were taken to a medical facility for medical treatment. The motive for the attack is believed to be extortion related. The unknown suspects are yet to be arrested."
