A MOTHER from Lotus River has been left shattered after her 20-year-old son was shot and killed while standing inside his yard yesterday morning.
Five men between the ages of 20 and 72 years believed to all be innocent were targeted by a random shootout yesterday morning in 5th Avenue, Lotus River when unknown gunmen pulled up in a vehicle and started opening fire randomly.
Among the five men, four were injured and a 20-year-old Shuaib Davids was declared deceased on the scene.
A heartbroken Gaynor Grundman said her son Shuaib was standing in the front yard as her 60- year-old boyfriend was coming into the house when they both got shot.
Gaynor explained: “They were in the yard on the premises when the car came past and the gunmen were leaning out of the car and started shooting randomly. The other victims who also got shot were outside our property.
"My son was the only one who passed away. He had gunshot wounds to his head and I believe his stomach.”
Boyfriend Neil Carelse, 60, was shot in the arm while making his way into the house.
He said: “I am alright just shaken by what happened and upset that Shuaib died.
"I am a regulator on the taxis, my work was finished and I came down. As I was making my way into the house I heard shots going off and they shot me in the arm.
"When I came outside I saw my girlfriend’s boy shot dead. I don’t know why they shot us because none of us are gangsters, we are all innocent and grown men.”
