Criminals in Delft have targeted a cash in transit vehicle on Friday in Voorbrug and allegedly took off with money and firearms.
Footage of the scene made the rounds on social media showing a G4S cash in transit vehicle stationed at the Post Office in Delft Main Road which was cornered off as police attended to the scene.
Reports by crime groups and community groups claimed that the criminals took off with money and firearms.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said that this incident is subject of an investigation by the Western Cape Hawks and was told to forward our media enquiry to their communication department for a suitable response.
When Daily Voice reached out to spokesperson of the Hawks, Warrant Officer Zinzi Hani she confirmed that the matter is under investigation however no further information can be shared at this point.
“I can confirm the matter is investigated by the Hawks and the matter is under investigation,” reports Warrant Officer Hani.
When Daily Voice asked if she could confirm if money and firearms were indeed taken during this robbery as reported she said that she is unable to confirm that.
Public Relations Officer for the Delft Community Police Forum, Francois de Bruin said that the matter is ‘extremely sensitive’.
The incident was also posted by crime group Fight Against Crime on their Facebook page.
One commentor wrote: "How is this even possible? How many guys are in that van even and how do they know at which time these vans come? Do they come the same time so that criminals know the routines or what?
"It’s way to easy nowadays, this country’s security is invisible, what a joke.”
