ANOTHER deadly shooting has rocked Lentegeur in Mitchells Plain after three people were shot on Tuesday night in Montrose Park.
The shooting occurred around 7.10pm when unidentified gunmen opened fire on a group of men standing in front of a house in Veronica Street.
One man was killed in the onslaught and two victims were injured and rushed to hospital for medical treatment.
Police spokesperson Captain FC Van Wyk said that the motive for the shooting is believed to be gang related.
“Lentegeur police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident in Montrose Park, Lentegeur at 7.10pm,” Van Wyk reported.
“According to reports, unidentified suspects opened fire at a group of men standing in front of a house in Veronica Street, Montrose Park, fatally wounding an adult male and injuring two others. The injured victims were taken to a nearby hospital with private transport.
“The suspects fled the scene on foot. No arrest has been made yet. The motive is believed to be gang related.”
Michael Jacobs, public relations officer for the Lentegeur Community Police Forum, said that the community is tense as mense are fearing for their safety.
“You can feel the atmosphere is tense. There are not intensive shootings as before after the last two weeks of continuous shootings and killings but the area is quiet but tense and people do not feel safe,” Jacobs said.
