Zuma gifted the grieving parents with a granite memorial plaque and again offered his condolences to the family.

The plaque read: "In loving of our angel Courtney Pieters — You were with us for a short while. Every day, every thought reminds us of you. You passed us like a cool summer breeze. We will always love and cherish the memories of your tender nature. You brought communities together. Sleep sweet baby girl... forever in our hearts."

Zuma also condemned the murder, labelling it as a senseless and brutal act, and slammed the police for not searching the house.

Zuma says he will take the manner in which police handled the Courtney Pieters case up with Police Minister Fikile Mbalula and says we might need harsher laws.

He said: "It was one of the saddest things I've ever heard... it's abnormal."
