It all started with a few humorous videos posted online and since then, Lizette Booys has become an online teaching star.
Her Facebook page and YouTube channel Wiskunde Juffie is aimed at primary school pupils who are struggling with mathematics and Booys does her videos with energy, fun and makes them engaging.
She graduated from college in 2013 and started teaching at Bonteheuwel High School the following year.
“In 2018 I was at Silversands Primary School in Blue Downs and I was a floating teacher so I didn’t have a registered class, so when everyone is on admin, you’re free. So I had quite a lot of free time and in that time I was inspired and I just made funny videos at first about my experiences in teaching in general,” said Booys.
Posting her musings on social media, she steadily racked up clicks and likes.
A grades 5 and 6 maths and science teacher at West End Primary in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, Booys decided to extend the reach of the videos for her pupils and upload them to her social media
pages.
“When I was on campus, I learnt maths on YouTube. My lecturer I couldn’t understand what he was
saying so I had to learn on YouTube and I learnt so much because there
was this tutor online who was the best. He taught me everything,” Booys
said.
