Crime fighter Hanif Loonat believes he has become the victim of a hate campaign.

This comes after thugs threw a brick at the larney car of the chairperson of the Mitchells Plain Community Policing Forum sometime on Wednesday night.

Loonat woke up to find the window of his BMW Z3 smashed, with the baksteen still lying on his car.

Nothing was missing from the car.

Last week a neighbour, who drives a similar car his, was shot and wounded in the same street. Loonat did not want to reveal more details.

The Lansdowne resident took to Facebook to challenge his attackers.

Under photos of his damaged vehicle, Loonat wrote: “Come you cowards and face me if you have a problem. Stop these childish games. I am not intimidated at all.”

Loonat believes the thugs followed him home on Wednesday night.

Although he has no idea who is behind the brick attack, he believes it has to do with his crime-fighting duties.

He says: “I don’t know who it is or what they want from me. Last night I was in a cluster meeting until 10pm and drove home with this white bakkie following me.

“I stopped at the shop and was there for about 10 minutes. When I parked my car at home, the bakkie with two guys inside drove slowly, passing my house.

“I wondered about it, but did not give it much thought. Now it seems a little strange.”

Loonat says he immediately contacted the Lansdowne police to investigate.

He says he knows he has “enemies” and that these attacks will “receive the highest priority” due to his position as cluster chair.

“I have many people gunning for me, I know this. I have some of the most lucrative criminals and corrupt police officers on my radar.

“They probably think they can scare me into letting this go, but I will do no such thing,” says Loonat.

His Facebook post this morning said: “What are you trying? Trying to intimidate me? Bring it on cowards. I can deal with these actions with ease.

“Stop hiding behind these coward acts. Let’s get this sorted face to face. Whatever your intention, I will get to the bottom of your immoral and criminal actions.”

Captain FC van Wyk confirms that a case of malicious damage to property was registered at Lansdowne SAPS.

“No arrest as yet.”
