A group of skelms have hit Grassy Park businesses in a spate of burglaries in the Lake Road precinct in recent weeks.
The most recent theft on Wednesday morning was caught on camera as the brazen skelms used a bolt cutter to break through a security gate of a clothing store and steal branded clothing worth R10 000.
The 37-year-old owner, who asked not to be named, says she was disappointed when she arrived at her store and found it had been burgled.
“There were five of them and they came during the early hours and used bolt cutters and bashed in the door.
“They stole Nike tracksuits, children’s tracksuits and other branded T-shirts worth R10 000.
“They also trashed the store and stole cellphones. I am very disappointed. I am a mother who has been running this store for six years to provide for my family.”
Grassy Park station commander Colonel Dawood Laing confirms the incident and says: “The incident was caught on camera and all leads are being followed up. We have already obtained fingerprints.
“I have confirmed that there have been a spate of break-ins at businesses in this area and we are calling on people to come forward with information about the people who are selling these items”.
Anyone with information is asked to call Laing on 082 469 3016.
