The time has finally arrived for the long-awaited Skemerdans to make its appearance on our small screens.
The Cape Town based original Showmax series was filmed at Athlone’s famous Club Galaxy, Voortrekker Road and other local locations last year.
The murder mystery features a host of local TV stars and is the brainchild of Amy Jephta from Mitchells Plain and Ephraim Gordon vannie Paarl.
After the murder of owner Glenn Fortune, The Oasis Jazz Club becomes the centre of a power struggle between two brothers, a scorned widow and an organised crime syndicate.
The first season kicks off tomorrow.
The Fortune family is played by Safta winners Kevin Smith, Ilse Klink and Brendon Daniels, known for his outstanding performance in Four Corners.
Vinette Ebrahim of 7de Laan fame, rising star Trudy van Rooy and stage star Carmen Maarman, who has been making inroads on the local soapie scene, also star.
Skemerdans was also the swansong of Ceagan Arendse (Suidooster, Arendsvlei) who tragically passed away in February.
Carmen is no stranger to the spotlight and readers will instantly recognise her from her scene-stealing roles in Aunty Merle: the Musical and District Six.https://www.showmax.com/eng/play/4aee580f-c6dd-4e89-902d-813f90877556/45f07ff0-894f-4367-8408-43e31ccedf8e/TRAILER?utm_campaign=ShareButton&utm_source=fd525545-d1d2-4db4-b5fe-78dbc61c10a9
In Skemerdans, Carmen plays the feisty Bonita Fortune who is married to the spineless Trevor Fortune.
Carmen says of Bonita: “She loves her husband dearly but she constantly has to push him to have a backbone towards his family because he’s the one who’s always trampled on and set aside.”
Carmen encourages mense to watch the action-packed drama.
“It’s gritty, it’s powerful, it’s sexy, it’s dangerous. It’s about family and every facet of our lives in one TV series.
“Finally, we have something different, with a coloured cast, who are powerful in their own right. We're all very proud of it.”
Ephraim adds that Capetonians will have fun spotting the areas where they filmed.
