An Edgemead chocoholic got more than he bargained for after finding MAGGOTS in his Milky Bar.
Erik Burger, 44, says his family got naar and he is still waiting for manufacturers Nestlé to see to his complaint.
“I must have a chocolate every night, I love chocolate, I don’t have a preference,” he says.
“So I went to the Spar and I bought the Nestlé Milky Bar Peanut flavour on Thursday, 28 March.
“I opened it and took two bars from the slab in the dark, but it just didn’t feel right and the chocolate was crumbling.
“I closed the chocolate and placed it on the nightstand and told my wife something wasn’t right with the chocolate.”
He says the next day, his stepson called to say he is feeling naar after taking a bite from the maggot-infested slab.
BITTER BEK: Erik Burger, 44, waiting for Nestle to handle his complaint
“He called saying he had eaten of the chocolate on the table. He said: ‘I just ate of the chocolate and something was moving inside and I spat it out’.
“It was maggots, he sent us pictures of it,” a grossed out Erik says.
He says he couldn’t believe what he saw that night.
“There were so many maggots in the chocolate. “It was disgusting. The expiry date of the chocolate is at the end of June 2019, so this is not Spar’s problem.”
He says he called Nestlé the following Monday, 1 April, and someone called him back.
“They said someone will be coming out to me the Tuesday, but I’m still waiting.”
Nestlé’s Media Relations and Stakeholder Engagement Executive, Zweli Mnisi, confirms they had spoken to Erik last week.
“Upon learning about Mr. Burger’s complaint, we immediately expressed our regret about his unpleasant experience with one of our brands,” he says.
“Our Nestlé Consumer Engagement Services then fully explained to Mr. Burger the whole process and collection of the defective product was arranged for the next day.
“To date, both our courier company and the Nestlé agent have been attempting to contact the complainant on the number provided, without success.
“An additional effort was also made to find the landline number of the store that the product was to be collected from, but this too did not help.”
