Happy hour came early in Beacon Valley, Mitchells Plain on Monday after a beer truck lost its load.
Cadillac Street looked like a carnival as mense helped themselves to kiste biere from the South African Breweries truck.
In a video, men, women and even children can be seen carrying away crates of Castle Lager from the truck.
Vehicles are parked in the road at the four-way stop where the truck got stuck and was littered with broken beer bottles.
A man in a pink T-shirt can be seen walking away with two black crates, while another man is carrying a purple bag with stolen biere and a box of Delush wine.
A red convertible BMW also pulls up, and its passenger can be seen running to the truck to get his stash.
At the end of the 50-second video, the truck starts up and the driver pulls away, losing more of his load.
Some residents arrive too late for the party and walk off with empty kiste.
The person filming says: “Disgusting how people are running for wine. This is Beacon Valley in Mitchells Plain for you.”
Law Enforcement spokesperson, Wayne Dyason, confirmed: “A beer truck lost its load in Cadillac Street in Beacon Valley. Some looting took place, but SAPS were on scene and order was restored.”
Last month, an SAB truck also lost its load between Stellenbosch Arterial Road and the R300 in Kuils River.
SAB director of communications, Refilwe Masemola, said the driver had travelled from Stellenbosch and while turning on the R300, lost part of his load.
