The mother of the child raised the alarm following alleged threats from William Brown, 55, last week “that he wanted to join his son in jail and was going to do the same Chris did”.
Christopher has been convicted of the rape and murder of six-year-old Stacey-Lee Adams.
Relatives and neighbours in Mitchells Plain took to social media on Sunday after the child went missing, claiming she was in the clutches of a sex pest who would harm her.
Videos of William getting moered also went viral.
It shows how on Sunday at 3pm, William walks down De La Rey Road in Eastridge, holding the child’s hand, when a woman snatches the child from him and gives him a moerse klap.
As he falls to the ground, the woman and several other people start beating William with their fists, a sjambok and sticks, and kick him, accusing him of raping the little girl.
Provincial police on Monday confirmed the child underwent a medical examination and was found to be unharmed.
Police spokesperson, Mihlali Majikela, said: “There is no grounds for a criminal case against the man (William). He was given medical treatment and was advised to lay criminal charges against his attackers.”
William is married to the child’s mom, Joanne Kiewitz, 37.
In the video, a young man is seen trying to rescue the old man, shouting: “Los hom.”
But a woman screams, “maak hom in sy p***”, and drags him to the ground for a second time and he is given another beating by community members.
A man is then seen kicking the old man in the head.
Blood runs down his face and the young man picks the unconscious William up and carries him home.
Joanne says the community got angry after she told them William threatened to harm her daughter on Thursday.
“He told me he wanted to be with his son [in prison] because he misses him and would do what Chris did,” Joanne says.
“I never opened a case against him. The child is safe, she is OK.”
But she says she may have exaggerated things: “It was unnecessary the way this thing exploded, I knew he would not hurt her.”
She says her husband is currently in a safe place after being assisted by cops.
According to mense on the scene, while he was being attacked, William said he had taken the child to a local mall to get something to eat.
A woman says they moered William because Joanne led them to believe he might hurt the child.
William and his family still reside on the property where Stacey-Lee was raped and killed in June 2018.
Brown, who was dating the child’s mother, said he killed her out of anger after the mother had gone to a party without him.
Brown is serving four life sentences for Stacey’s rape and murder, as well as for the rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend, Thulisa Lavisa.
