Evil boewe have broken into a mosque for the fifth time, this time stealing all the wiring.
Suspects broke about 20 windows trying to gain access into Al Masjid Ghaumies in Eastridge.
Imam Togeed Bassadien says when they got to the place of worship on Saturday morning, they found it dark.
“We got here before 5am and all the lights were off and we found that they broke into the mosque through a small window and then had tried to break into a lot of windows,” he says.
“They tried to get the speakers off but couldn’t reach them and so they went to the mains and cut out all of the wiring, all the breakers, they took everything.
“People helped us and by 6pm everything was sorted out.”
Treasurer Farouk Taliep says on previous occasions, burglars stole pipes and taps.
“They also stole the speaker from the madressa area and then they cut out the plastic pipes which are not worth a cent.
“We struggled for two months to get water into the building.”
Imam Bassadien tells the Daily Voice they are saddened by the invasions.
“The mosque is supposed to be a safe area and everybody must have access to it.
“But we can’t be open the whole day, we have to open 10 minutes before the time of our prayers and close up immediately.
“We also don’t feel safe inside the mosque.
“The community is fed up because it’s a continuous thing.”
SAPS’ FC van Wyk says they can confirm that the mosque was broken into on Friday night.
“The entry was gained through a window. Only wiring and circuit breakers were stolen, suspects are unknown at this stage.
“A house breaking case was opened for investigation.”
