Grassy Park cops are on the hunt for a slippery skollie who escaped custody at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday by fooling court orderlies into believing he was someone else.
Station commander, Colonel Dawood Laing, says they got a skrik when they heard Clyde “Muis” Lewis, 34, had escaped custody on Tuesday and simply walked out of the court building as a free man.
WANTED: Drugs, attempted murder suspect Clyde ‘Muis’ Lewis
He says the man who is a member of the Junky Funky Kidz gang was arrested for a 2018 case of attempted murder after he opened fire on a Kuils River resident during a robbery.
“Muis was being held at Goodwood Prison for the Kuils River case where he robbed and tried to shoot someone back in 2018,” explains Laing.
“On Tuesday he was appearing at Wynberg Magistrates’ Court for a drug case dating back to 2018 when he was arrested by Grassy Park police.
“According to what we have been told, he was wrongfully released from custody after he gave the court orderly a false name and told them he was a different accused.”
Laing says luck was on the skollie’s side as the case against the other accused was withdrawn.
INFORM: Col. Dawood Laing
“So after giving the officers the wrong name, that case got withdrawn and Muis walked out a free man.
“He floused them into believing he was someone else and it worked.
“We are now looking for him because he is awaiting trial for attempted murder, which is a serious case.
“He is considered dangerous and we are appealing to the public to help us put him back behind bars.”
ESCAPE: Clyde Lewis simply walked out of Wynberg Court
Laing says it is believed that Muis is in Steenberg and surrounding areas.
“We need people to come forward with information to put him back in prison while he awaits trial so the person who he tried to shoot can get justice. We are not playing cat and mouse with him.”
