Police are investigating a case of public violence and looting after a crowd stoned an ice-cream truck and looted it on Thursday.
Both police and the City of Cape Town have confirmed that no persons were wounded during the attack which took place along Jakes Gerwel Drive and Vlei Street in Samora Machel at 2.30pm.
The truck could be seen lying on its side with broken glass and stock strewn across the road.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms the incident and says criminals initially attacked two trucks but one got away.
The ice cream truck was looted after the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned.

“A case of Public Violence and looting has been opened for investigation after an incident that occurred today at 2.30pm at Jakes Gerwel Street Vlei Samora Machel.
“According to information two delivery trucks were driving along Jakes Gerwel Drive when a crowd of people suddenly started throwing stones at them.
“The one truck driver drove away. The other truck from an ice cream company overturned after the driver lost control.
“The crowd started to loot the truck. Police and Law Enforcement officers arrived on the scene and the people ran away. No injuries reported.”
Inspector Wayne Dyason, the spokesperson for City Law Enforcement, confirms they were on the scene and says Duinefontein Road was temporarily closed to clear the scene.
