Cape Flats rapper and social media influencer K-Nine Die Hond has been arrested after he allegedly stabbed two men at a party in Mitchells Plain.
The artist, real name Marcelino Rossouw, was arrested at his home in Portlands on Tuesday and is being charged with assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
The 29-year-old, famous for his songs Fok’ie Mapuza, You aint shhhh and Gengste, told the Daily Voice he acted in self-defence after five men attacked him.
One of the alleged victims, Quwen Daniels, 22, says they were at the birthday party of TikTok star DJ Graham in Kittywalk, Rocklands, on Saturday when the incident happened.
“Me and my cousin Mikyle Fortuin, 22, were sitting inside the house when we heard the commotion happening outside and when we looked out we saw K-Nine beating up our other cousin Jody,” Quwen claims.
“Me and Mikyle then jumped in to help our cousin and eventually the fight died down. We thought it was over, but K-Nine went to his vehicle and grabbed a gun.
“Jody and myself ran to him and I shouted at Jody, saying it’s a blank gun, he shot the gun at me point blank range, but I thank God it was a blank gun or else I would’ve been dead.
“I grabbed the gun from him and threw it into the street. As K-Nine got out of his car, he stabbed Mikyle in the stomach.
“I ran towards K-Nine to stop him and he stabbed me twice in the right hip and then into my left side diaphragm.”
Quwen says they drove themselves to a nearby hospital where Mikyle had an operation.
Speaking to the Daily Voice on Tuesday shortly before his arrest, a bruised Marcelino said: “I didn’t take out a gun. Yes, I stabbed them but my life was in danger. If I didn’t do anything to defend myself from five men beating me up, I was going to die.”
The rapper told his side of the story to his followers on Facebook on Monday night in an eight-minute video, which gained 38 000 views in 17 hours and nearly 300 comments from people supporting him.
He explained that he was chilling outside with two girls and a guy “when two brasse came up to me, forcing me to dice with them”.
K-Nine, who owns a black VW Golf Mach 3 VR6, said: “I said no because my car parts are very expensive and if something breaks they are not gonna replace anything.
“This bra was keeping dik with me and I kept saying no and then he said ‘jy moet jou ophou sterk gevriet hou en jy kan f*kol maakie, ek skiet soma vir jou’.
“When he threatened to shoot me, I got upset and that’s when we started fighting.
“His brasse came out and instead of breaking the fight, all five of them attacked me.
“They broke a glass bottle over my head, busted my hand, trapped (stepped on) me, the blood was running from my head.
“I was fighting back but I saw I wasn’t going to win, I fell and then I got up and ran to my car.
“These guys continued to beat me up and damaged my car. Two brasse were at my car door at that moment and I decided to defend myself with my knife. I started stabbing them away from me and that’s when they left me.”
Update: Police have confirmed they are investigating a case of attempted murder following K-Nine’s arrest.
Warrant Officer Joseph Swartbooi says: “The circumstances surrounding an incident that occurred in Tiger Moth Street, Rocklands on Sunday at about 1am are under investigation.
