The oupa who was arrested last week after allegedly shooting his grandson for breaking his flowers was granted R1000 bail on Monday.
Moegamat Mansoer Toefy, 75, appeared at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court where no one was allowed in, including the parents of injured Umar Parker, 14.
His bail was paid by one of his daughters who lives in Delft, which has upset the family as she did not tell their mother she would be putting up the money.
“Everyone is upset, especially my kids,” disappointed son-in-law Walid tells the Daily Voice.
“There is a family feud now, my mother-in-law is upset that she was not told by her own daughter that she would pay the bail.
“My daughters have also applied for protection orders so that he does not come anywhere close to us.”
Mansoer’s wife, Ragiema Toefy, 69, admits he has anger issues.
“He is an angry man and a violent man. I have been married to him for many years, I know him,” she says.
The elderly man is not allowed anywhere close to his Parow home, and must stay with his daughter in Delft.
The case was postponed to 26 February next year.
Mansoer allegedly shot his grandson in the collarbone on Thursday after questioning him about the flower he broke.
A video of the argument recorded at their Parow home shows the angry oupa flying into a rage and swearing.
Walid says: “My daughter took a phone to record my father’s angry reaction and my father saw that.
“He hit her and I noticed that he was carrying his gun.
“I tried shouting, but he already pulled the trigger.”
The father says his main concern is his son Umar who is recovering from the shooting.
“The bleeding stopped now and the doctors will operate on him any time now.”
Walid’s wife Fairuz was too upset to speak.
