A second Metro Police base has been placed under lockdown this week after another cop tested positive for the Coronavirus.
On Monday videos of Metro Police vehicle at the base in Khayelitsha being sanitised surfaced on social media amid reports that an entire shift had been placed in isolation.
City Executive Director for Safety and Security Richard Bosman confirms that an officer at the base tested positive for Covid-19 and says they were informed over the weekend.
AFFECT: Cars being sanitised
“The officer is stationed at the Metro Police facility in Khayelitsha. The shift he was on is in isolation. We intend occupying the office again on Thursday.
“The entire building was on lockdown to be sanitised and all staff were relocated to another base to work from for the time being.”
He says a total of 17 Metro cops at the base have been tested and are awaiting results.
“The whole shift that worked with the infected officer are in isolation.
“Operations have been affected as there is limited enforcement coverage at the moment, but staff from other clusters are working across borders to attend to complaints until the officers who test negative return to work.”

Over the weekend Bosman explained the City was informed of an officer at the Transport Management Centre (TMC) in Goodwood who also tested positive for the virus and it was temporarily closed. Since then he says two more officers have tested positive at the centre.
“All radio control room staff are currently being tested and are in self isolation for the next seven days. The TMC radio control room facility is also being sanitised.”
