Two suspected gangsters, one of whom was apparently released from prison this week, crashed their car into a wall while trying to escape their killers.
Police say Junaid Gamaldien, 20, of Leiden, Delft and his friend, Charlie “China” Conlon, 32, of New Woodlands, were sitting in a white Toyota Tazz on the corner of Melbourne and Boston streets, Portland, Mitchells Plain when they were confronted by gunmen who opened fire on them on Monday at 8.20 pm.
The driver attempted to save their lives by speeding away but crashed into a vibracrete wall in Boston Street.
The bonnet of the vehicle was left mangled.
Cops say the gunmen followed the men and continued to shoot them until they died.
Both had multiple gunshot wounds.
The men were allegedly members of the Yakkies gang.
Members of the Anti-Gang Unit were at the scene.
Sources say the shooting may be linked to recent gang-related murders, and that one of the men is allegedly related to a prominent leader in the Yakkies gang.
“It is most likely in retaliation for the killing of Fancy Boys leader Trevor “Kapokkie” Markgraaf and the taxi driver, also an alleged Fancy Boy, that were killed last week,” says the source.

“This is a fight to the death and there are going to be heavy casualties.”
When relatives arrived at the scene, they were too devastated to speak to the media and were asking cops whether they could see the bodies or not.
Police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel André Traut, confirms the shooting and says: “The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be arrested.”
