A 17-year-old Manenberg boy is fighting for his life after being shot in the head when heartless gunmen opened fire along Duinefontein Road.
In the same drive-by attack, a six-year-old boy was shot while lying in his bed as a bullet ripped through his mother’s Wendy house.
Shocked residents living in Scheldt Walk say they were left speechless when the vehicle drove past their homes and fired indiscriminately.
Andrew Witten, 53, says his nephew, Keano du Plessis was sitting outside his home with a group of friends when he was hit in the head and neck.
“We couldn't believe what we were seeing. Keano and his friends were sitting outside the house just after 6pm and the car just pulled up on Duinefontein and started shooting,” says Andrew.
“All the children ran for their lives and that is when we heard them screaming that Keano was shot. The blood was everywhere and we just rushed him to Heideveld Hospital.
“They transferred him to Groote Schuur and he is on life support now. We are so hartseer because he is so young and is not even part of a gang, so why did they shoot like that?
“There is nothing we can do now but pray that he comes out of this coma.”
Meanwhile, mom Shihaam Khan, 58, says her son Yazied is lucky to be alive after being struck in the back by one of the bullets.
“He was inside the Wendy house when lots of skote were heard and the bullet just came straight through my house,” she says.
“We took him to the hospital but luckily they said the bullet just grazed him. He is so traumatised ,our children aren’t even safe in their own homes.”
SAPS’ Captain FC van Wyk confirms the incident and says two cases of attempted murder have been opened.
