A TV cameraman was shot and killed as he dropped a friend off in Mitchells Plain.
Ray Cee, 32, was murdered shortly after the crew had filmed a music video for his employer, Durhan Studios, on Wednesday evening.
Ray, who was born and raised in Zimbabwe, was shot in the neck while seated in his white VW Golf after three men approached him in Maartblom Street, Lentegeur in Mitchells Plain.
The attack happened just after 10pm.
The wounded Athlone man managed to drive off but crashed his car into the fence of a nearby property.
He died at the scene.
The three shooters did not attempt to rob him and fled the scene. Residents called the police and paramedics arrived soon after.
Ray had been well-known in the Cape Town media industry and his death left many in shock.
Faizal Sayed, TV talk show host and the CEO of Deen Channel, confirmed Ray had previously worked for the station.
He says they were deeply shocked after receiving the news that their former staff member had been murdered.
“I have no words to explain what my staff and I are currently going through. I cannot imagine what is going through his mom’s mind right now,” said Faizal
“He was a character of love and fun. We had so many good times with Ray. I just don’t know what to say. He was the life of our office and brought smiles to the faces of many. He was determined and a hard worker.

“This is really sad as he left his own country to come here with the aim of becoming something in life. I immediately employed him. It is a disgrace that his life was taken in our country.
Faizal says Ray had a passion for music and was a good producer.
“He had done a few good music videos before, but the one he was currently busy with would have been his big break. I have spoken to the Durhan Studios in Woodstock, where he was employed at the time of his murder, and we will release a combined video of Ray to honour him.”
Police spokesperson, Siyabulela Malo, said a case of murder was opened for investigation.
He said cops from Lentegeur SAPS responded and found Ray in his car.
“The victim was about to drop passengers in the area when three unknown men approach his vehicle and fired one shot to his neck and he totally lost control of his vehicle,” he said.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are being investigated with no arrests so far.”
