The mother of a three-year-old girl who was shot dead while eating noodles in her home says she is disappointed in the justice system.
This is after the two men accused of murdering little Andrea Jordaan were released on bail of R1 500 yesterday at the Bellville Magistrates’ Court.
The child was shot in the neck on 6 July in her Rustenburg Avenue home, in Belhar.
Her devastated mom Rushka Hassen, 33, says: “I am angry that people who were out on parole and killed my daughter were freed.
“How are they allowed to go back to society when clearly they are a danger to everyone around them?
“This is not fair, it is not justice, we have not felt safe since the day my baby was taken away.
“Our lives fell apart and we are not getting help anywhere.”
Rushka claims that she was never informed about the court proceedings.
“The case was transferred to the Anti-Gang Unit but the only time I spoke to the police was after the two guys were arrested and then they went quiet.
“When I went to try and get help from the social worker in Bellville, I decided to ask about my daughter’s case and I was told that they had been appearing in court and that was two months after they were arrested.
“No one seems to care about my child’s death.
“I don’t know where to go to get help.”
One of the bail conditions is that the pair not set foot in Belhar.
“I know they will go there because they don’t know Macassar, they only know Belhar.
“What must happen to me and my other kids?
“Won’t they come after us? Are we safe? I don’t know how to answer those questions.”
