A relative who asked to remain anonymous says the threats were reported to police, but they haven’t had any feedback from the Hawks, who are investigating the case.
“Last weekend someone told one of Randy’s sisters she and the rest of her family will be killed too,” says the relative.
Rudi Salo, 42, and 19-year-old Randy Burgess were shot dead at the 6th annual Steppies Biker Rally in Hawston near Hermanus in February.
The girl’s mom, Colonel Rounita Burgess, 49, was shot twice in the head as the shooter fired on the car they were sitting in.
At the time, a source said threats were made to Randy’s sister just before the fatal shootings.
But Hawks spokesperson Captain Lloyd Ramovha says they have no knowledge of the threats.
Rounita, who still has a bullet lodged in her head, is frustrated that no arrests have been made as yet.
Burgess has to re-learn how to walk, talk and do everyday things like writing, after two operations to remove bullets from her brain.
“Nobody is giving us any answers. She can’t sleep without sleeping tablets and cries in her sleep,” says the relative.
A 26-year-old man was arrested hours after the shooting but was released two days later due to insufficient evidence.
According to Ramovha, several other suspects have since been taken in for questioning and released.
It is still unclear what the motive for the attack was and whether Colonel Burgess was the target.
Ramovha said the investigation is very “intricate” and ongoing.
