He was awarded the title of top traffic cop in Cape Town this week after only two years on the job. Yet, he is as humble as he is willing to serve.

Traffic officer Kevin Brand is stationed at Bellville Traffic Department.

The 45-year-old from Gordon’s Bay was last week hailed a hero when he helped a woman in labour on the R300.

In July this year, he was awarded for Outstanding Performance and last Monday he received the Traffic Officer of the Year award.

The spietkop was quick to respond when he was called for help on the busy road.

“I was standing on the corner or Van Riebeek Road and the R300 when a man came running to me out of breath,” he explains.

“He said he was stuck in traffic and his wife was in labour. I rushed to her side and she was already dilated.

“I put her into my car and rushed her to Karl Bremer Hospital, but the baby was already out.

“I’m glad I got to her in time.”

Kevin has only been a traffic cop for two years after spending five years as a Metro Police Officer.

The dad of two says it has been a blessed year for him.

“I feel proud and hyped I’m also getting married next Saturday, so 2017 has been an amazing year for me,” he says.

“I can only thank God for the blessings because I included him in all my plans and this is the great outcome.”
