Evil skelms have looted a Mitchells Plain church at an ungodly hour.
A resident, who lives close to the New Apostolic Church on Mitchells Avenue in Woodlands, said the break-in must have happened after midnight on Tuesday morning, but it was only confirmed later in the day.
He said the kerk’s projector and amplifier were stolen along with the keys to the offering boxes.
“Later in the day, I saw that the church people were there and the one guy told me guys somehow opened the sliding gate in the front and broke through the back door of the church,” he added.
“Hoe kan ‘n mens a kerk rop? People here know the church very well and all the deacons and the priests, so it is sad to know that this skelms now stole cherished stuff just to get a bietjie money for drugs.
“They also knew that you cannot see the back door from the street so they sieka go to that church.”
Deacon Keith McCarthy said the church management was unaware of the robbery until it was discovered by residents.
“We do not even know how they got into the church or when it happened,” he says.
“We just know that on Tuesday morning, I got a call to say that somebody broke into the church and later we came down but I do not have much of the details.”
SAPS’ confirms: “Be advised that housebreaking and theft cases were registered for investigation at Lentegeur Police.
“The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, October 19, morning.
“No injuries were reported while no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.”
