Strandfontein crimefighters have called on residents to piemp drug merts after three dealers were nabbed over the weekend.
During a joint operation by Strandfontein SAPS and Law Enforcement officers, three merts, which included two women, were arrested when they were allegedly found in possession of tik, mandrax, heroin, dagga and cash as officers executed search warrants.
Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Sandy Schuter, says during the first search at a hokkie in the Mascendani Camp informal settlement, officers arrested a 25-year-old woman who was found in possession of dagga and stoppe.
“They went to a well-known drug house in Ketch Road but did not find anything. They moved to a house in Punt Road which is the source of a lot of complaints and here they found a 30-year-old woman and a 20-year-old man in possession of tik, heroin, mandrax and cash and they were arrested,” says Schuter.
Police spokesperson Noloyiso Rwexana says: “Three suspects aged 20, 25 and 30 years old were arrested. Two were arrested for dealing in drugs while one was arrested for possession of drugs.
“Tik, heroin, mandrax and dagga worth a substantial amount were found in their possession with an undisclosed amount of cash. They appeared in court today [Monday].”
Schuter says it is important for residents to piemp merts so action can be taken.
“But people must understand that the houses are profiled first to see if it is a tik house or pella pos before the cops raid it and you can’t just report your neighbour’s house because you don’t like them.”
