A Cape Flats pastor is on a mission to feed hungry children with 10 000 loaves of bread.
Pastor Oscar Bougardt has declared “War on Hunger” on the Cape Flats, and hopes to feed thousands of hungry laaities these school holidays.
The pastor, of Calvary H.O.P.E. Ministries in Strandfontein, together with Pastor Johnny Scheepers is calling on Daily Voice readers to help him collect 10 000 loaves of bread.
They started their project three years ago, and began distributing meat, vegetables and clothing to the poor after receiving donations.
They’ve been handing out 2 500 packets of meat per week, and run several soup kitchens.
Last year, the pastors handed out 5 500 loaves of bread during the June school holidays.
This year they hope to double the figure with the help of the public.
Pastor Bougardt says: “My wife and I have donated to the project, friends and family. Last year God spoke to me, saying do you know that thousands of children during the school holidays go hungry because schools are closed.
“Learners in poorer communities usually get food at school, but during school holidays they have nothing to eat.
“I went on Facebook and asked my friends to donate bread and fill a hungry tummy, and I named it project “War on Hunger Bread Drive 2015” and in the first two weeks of school holidays we collected more than 5 500 loaves of bread.
“This year our target is to collect and distribute 10 000 loaves of bread.”
Pastor Bougardt appealed to Daily Voice readers to help him reach this target.
