British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday announced she will step down as Conservative Party leader on 7 June, effectively ending her three-year reign as premier - because her Brexit exit plans failed to gain support from her own party.
May will continue to serve as prime minister while a Conservative leadership contest takes place. She was under pressure to quit after a backlash from her own MPs against her Brexit plan.
The British Parliament has also rejected May's withdrawal agreement three times.

When May leaves Number 10 Downing Street she will be among the list of Bristish leaders who served the shortest time in power.
Many have reacted to her resignation on social media, including Ivanka Trump and EU Commissioner, Michel Barnier.
