On Saturday the learners of Fairmount High School in Grassy Park were treated to a fabulous evening of good food and dancing, after receiving “immense support” from their community.
Two weeks ago, the Daily Voice spoke to a parent and a teacher who were trying to raise enough funds to be able to host a fitting farewell for their 120 matrics.
They said most laaities couldn’t afford the R350 ticket and many also needed evening wear.
Teacher Bruce Anthony says the moment people heard the school may not be able to host a matric ball, they started assisting.
Most of the pupils come from Parkwood, an area riddled with gangsterism and drugs, and plagued by unemployment.
On Saturday, 110 matrics arrived at The Tuscany hall in Rylands, uitgevat in their Sunday best.
Mr. Anthony says they are very grateful for the wonderful donations and had a fantastic evening.
He says: “We live for our children. We had an awesome night at The Tuscany in which our giving community of individual donors, teachers, neighbours, friends and parents joined hands to see our lifetime learners through the glamorous rite of passage.
“We wish our donors well. Be blessed always. This is from the Fairmount Secondary School matrics of 2017.”
