A 19-year-old woman from Klapmuts died at the Stellenbosch Hospital just before 1am on Tuesday morning after a bullet hit her in the head and got stuck there.
Doctors told the family of Lauren Pietersen that she would not make it and she died soon after.
It is alleged the young woman was shot when the person who was with her was confronted by a gunman in Cool Park Housing Complex.
Lauren was allegedly parked on a dirt road with a local Rasta that is known in the community when a man walked up to them and shot him in the eye and her in the head.
The family believes the men were the intended victim and Lauren was shot because she was a witness.
Community members called Lauren’s family after midnight saying police detectives were driving around looking for them.
Lauren was employed at a local butcher at Shoprite Park, Klapmuts, for two years and her sister, 27, tells the Daily Voice they are heartbroken.
“We are all very sad and hope the police get who did this. She did not deserve this kind of death. She really was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Police spokesperson Siyabulela Malo confirms the incident and says the man survived the shooting.
“The circumstances surrounding the shooting incident that occurred in Groenfontein Street, Weltevrede Park in Klapmuts at about 8.20pm are being investigated,” he says.
“A case of murder and attempted murder has been opened for investigation with no arrests that have been made as yet.”
