Philippi residents stood in shock in front of the home of a 14-year-old boy who shot himself on Wednesday.
The teen, nicknamed ‘Junior’, shot himself just after 5pm at a family member’s home in Zone 14, Brown’s Farm.
Police have opened an inquest docket to determine what the motive of the suicide was.
According to police spokesperson, Captain FC van Wyk, the firearm used by the teen was licenced.
“Kindly be advised that the death of a 14-year-old boy is under police investigation after he allegedly shot himself at a family member’s residence in Brown’s Farm late Wednesday at about 5pm. A death inquest case docket has been registered,” Van Wyk said.
Van Wyk also added the owner of the firearm will be prosecuted.
“The licensed owner will also be charged on a case for failing to safeguard a firearm,” he says.
