The dead body of a Manenberg mom was discovered by her 15-year-old son while he was playing soccer with his friends.
Shannon Moses, 40, was found on a veldjie after she had been viciously stabbed to death.
Shortly after 10am yesterday, police were called to the field in Scheldt Road where residents say Shannon was seen lying on the grass with a jacket wrapped around her neck.
Ouma Regina, 76, says she last saw her granddaughter on Wednesday and was worried sick after the mom of four, who works as a domestic worker, failed to return home.
“I last saw her at 3pm [Wednesday] when she left home and never came back,” she says.
“I was so worried and I was up the whole night waiting for her.
“She has four children and this morning her son Devon came running to tell me they were playing soccer when some of the children saw the body.
“He went to look and saw it was his mother,” the weeping woman says.
Manenberg station commander Brigadier Sanele Zama says during the investigation, it was revealed that Shannon had been stabbed three times.
“The lifeless body of a woman was discovered by passersby on an open field in Scheldt Road,” says Zama.
“The fully clothed body had three stabbed wounds to the chest and it seems that the 40-year-old female succumbed to her injuries in the early hours of this morning.
“The victim is a resident of Thames Avenue and is the mother of four children. A case of murder has been opened for investigation and at this stage the motive is unknown.”
Shannon’s body was removed shortly after 2pm as angry residents expressed their frustrations, saying the veldjie is a crime hotspot.
A 66-year-old resident, who asked not to be named, says: “Shannon was not a troublesome person and it is shocking that nobody heard her shout or anything. We would always just see her with her children.
“We are gatvol of this veldjie and these bushes have been cut and burnt before because people do lots of things here.
“The last time they found the body of a baby dumped here.”
