Members of the Metro Police’s Gang and Drug Task Team have found a firearm linked to a shooting in Hanover Park.
Metro Police spokesperson Ruth Solomons says the team was reacting to a tip-off when they swooped on the premises in Columbine Place on Sunday and found a gun with the serial number filed off.
The team also confiscated eleven 9 mm rounds of ammunition found in a red backpack.
Solomons says a 36-year-old female was arrested at the house for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
“The Metro Police’s GDTT Unit followed up on information from Crime Intelligence regarding a firearm that was used in a shooting earlier in the Hanover Park area,” she says.
“The officers searched a premise in Columbine Place and found a Z88 with serial the number filed off and eleven 9mm live rounds of ammunition in a red backpack.
“A 36-year-old female was arrested for being in possession of a prohibited firearm, including being in illegal possession of ammunition and was detained at Philippi Police Station.
“This is the second firearm confiscated as part of an arrest during this weekend in the Hanover Park area.”
Solomons says in an unrelated case, a 28-year-old male and a 36-year-old female were arrested for being in possession of 86 mandrax tablets, two halves (mandrax) and 93 packets of tik.
“The Chief of Metro Police commends the community who assist in combating crime in taking illegal firearms, ammunition and drugs off the streets,” she adds.
