In the most recent incident, an alleged teen gangster was gunned down in Firethorn Road on Monday shortly before 10pm.
According to residents, the teen is a member of the Junky Funkies gang and apparently named his shooter before passing out.
He was taken to hospital.
Police spokesperson, Constable Carol Strauss, confirms the incident and says: “An attempted murder case was opened and the circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated. There have been no arrests.”
On Saturday, a group of boys was shot at by men in a blue car while playing dominoes in Yellowwood Road shortly after 7pm.
Shane Abrahams, 14, was hit in the legs, while his friend, Akeem Isaacs, 21, was shot in the stomach.
Abie Clayton, chairperson of the Community Organisation of Bonteheuwel Association (COBA), says many residents are puzzled by the recent gunfire.
“Bonteheuwel has been quiet for a long time now and these incidents are very worrying because they involve young boys,” he says.
“We are currently working on a project aimed at uniting youth against crime to show the gangsters and drug dealers that we have had enough.”
Ward councillor Angus McKenzie says gang-related activities are hampering the progress and development of the community.
“I fully support COBA’s plans for the youth and I want the gangsters to know we are tired of the bulls***. This is a stern warning that the community will unite against them,” he says.
