A suspected gangster has been killed as shootings continue to grip Manenberg in terror.
According to eyewitnesses, gunmen went to the home of a known gangster just before 6am yesterday.
He wasn’t there but he was later cornered in Letaba Road and they shot him in the chest multiple times, killing him instantly.
Manenberg has become a war zone once more with rival gangs taking their gun battles to the streets.
Two shooting incidents were reported on Tuesday, leaving a woman wounded after she was caught in crossfire in Ruimte Road.
Community activist Suleiman Henry says the police are reluctant to work with the community.
“There is not enough police visibility in the area and the police are reluctant to work with the community,” he says.
“Language seems to be a major barrier between police and the community.
“When you have just experienced trauma or a life and death situation, then you should at least be able to express yourself in your mother tongue.”
He says the challenges are not new and have long been tabled to police management.
Police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said they are investigating the latest shooting: “Manenberg police are investigating a murder case after a shooting incident in Letaba Road, Manenberg, today at about 5.50am where a 24-year-old male was shot and fatally wounded.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation,” he says.
Anyone with information relating to the shooting incident is requested to contact Manenberg SAPS 021 699 9400 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
