Police have uncovered a chop shop at the Siqalo Informal Settlement.
The police’s Operation Thunder and its Vehicle Identification Unit carried out a search at the informal settlement in Philippi along Jakes Gerwel Drive on Wednesday following an investigation.
Cops walked into the dwelling and found a trailer, engine parts, bumpers, chassis parts and doors, as well as dagga with a street value of R3 000.
Police say some of the car parts were linked to theft cases which occurred in Rondebosch and Grassy Park during 2017.
Police arrested a 29-year-old man who made a brief appearance at the Athlone Magistrate's Court on Thursday on charges of the illegal possession of drugs and the possession of suspected stolen property.
Philippi Station Commander, Colonel Dennis Ables, commends the team for making the successful arrest.
“Police will continue working around the clock to apprehend the perpetrators of crime and bring them to book.”
