A Mitchells Plain dad and his two minor children have been shot and wounded after evil gunmen targeted them during load shedding.
Police sources close to the investigation claim the shooting is gang-related and in retaliation after a man was murdered in Lobelia Street in Lentegeur, Mitchells Plain, on Saturday, 16 March.
The parents of Reagan Landers, 39, say they were about to go sleep at 11pm on Monday at their home in Leeubekkie Street, Lentegeur.
The entire Mitchells Plain was hit by Stage 4 load shedding from 10pm.
Gunmen fired shots through an open window of the Wendy house where Reagan and his children, Shayleen, five, and Shayden, seven, were sleeping.
Reagan was shot and wounded in the legs and stomach, while his daughter was struck in the head and his son in the foot.
Reagan’s father, Ruben Landers, says he rushed outside when he heard the gunshots.
“It was load shedding and I was getting into bed and I told my wife to lock the doors,” the oupa says.
“I got into bed when I heard shots being fired and there was probably 11 of them (gunshots). Then I heard the children crying in the Wendy house where my eldest son lives.

“My wife and I went outside and saw my son lying near the door. My granddaughter came running out and I saw she was shot in the head. My grandson was shot in the foot.”
Ruben denies claims that the shooting was gang-related and slammed the skollies for shooting at his grandchildren: “We are traumatised. I cannot believe that gangsters could shoot here and do not care that there are children inside.”
Police sources say they believe the gunmen had planned their attack.
“They waited for load shedding and shot through an open window and wanted to shoot the man and wounded his children,” explains the source.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana confirms three cases of attempted murder are being investigated: “According to reports, three victims aged five, seven and 39 were shot and wounded. The victims were transported to a medical facility for treatment.
“Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation. No one has been arrested so far.”
