Three skelms who held up staff at a popular Lansdowne store on Monday are behind bars after the brave owner and wakker cops hunted them down.
Yaseen Hassan, 38, says he was praying at the back of his store, Hassan Brothers Superette, when he heard his wife's screams as gunmen entered the store shortly before 8pm.
“They held the staff at gunpoint and took money and fled in two cars,” he says.
“I called my friend Constable Shane Ingham from Lansdowne SAPS and he responded very quickly. He is the same guy who caught the guys who robbed Burger King last week.”
Hassan says they spotted a white VW Polo fleeing the scene and the chase ensued.
“I told him you go this way and I go that way and we managed to catch the men in the Polo after we cornered them on the corner of Jan Smuts Drive and Govan Mbeki Drive.
“The gun was found inside the car.”
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andrè Traut, confirms the incident and says three skelms are still at large.
“Three suspects were apprehended and an imitation firearm was recovered. The other three suspects and the stolen cash are being sought by police.”
The suspects aged between 29 and 30 are due to appear at Wynberg Magistrates' Court on Thursday.
Hassan says the historic winkel dates back to 1946 and was opened by his oupa Magmoed.
“Since then it has been passed down from generation to generation. I have been running the shop since 2001 and not once have we been robbed. I am glad none of the staff were hurt.”
