A woman left paralysed after surviving a shooting four years ago has been killed in a mysterious fire.
Lucretia Floors, 25, lay helplessly on her bed and burnt to death while her sister went out to get assistance from her neighbours in Renoster Street, Leonsdale, on Saturday at around 6pm.
In 2017, she was shot while sitting in a car, the bullet went through her head and she was left brain damaged and a quadriplegic.
Her emotional mom Lizelle, 49, explains: “I was at work when I received a call from my neighbours telling me about the incident.
“My daughter couldn’t move to save herself, her sister was in such a state of shock when she made her food and went to serve it to her.
“When she opened the door, Lucretia’s head was on fire and there were big flames coming out of the room.
She says she ran out of the house to ask for help.”
The distraught mom tells the Daily Voice when the neighbours arrived to put out the fire, Lucretia had already died.
“She had burnt to death by the time they arrived to help.
“I am torn to pieces, that God gave her back to me after the shooting and now this.
“I am heartbroken for my children who have lost their older sister, and my 17-year-old daughter who had to witness that.
“I wish there could be counselling for us.”
Lizelle says Lucretia had a passion for soccer.
“She loved it. She was always on the field and she had a promising career but then she was shot,” she says.
“She was never a person who had boyfriends, she never had friends, never smoked or drank, but she was attacked outside her own home.
“For four years we took care of her, I had to work so I could provide for her.
“She was in kimbies, and in a wheelchair, she couldn’t use her right side.”
City Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson Jermaine Carelse says: “Fire crews from Goodwood and Epping were dispatched to the scene.
“Upon arrival it was confirmed that smoke was coming out of the upstairs bedroom.
“The fire was brought under control at approximately 6.45pm and the body of a 25-year-old female quadriplegic was discovered on the bed which had sustained fatal burn wounds.
“The bedroom was severely affected by the fire and the scene was handed over to SAPS at 7.12pm.”
Lizelle is appealing for any contribution towards the funeral and restoring their home: “We would like anything that will help.
