Mense in Heideveld will be having a dry holiday season if cops have anything to say about it.
A shebeen king and queen were arrested over the weekend after their smokkies were raided and their freezers emptied by cops on Saturday.
Manenberg cops clamped down on the duo, who used City of Cape Town rental flats to sell dop amid warnings from acting station commander, Colonel Sanele Zama of their no nonsense approach towards illegal liquor outlets this festive season.
SEIZED: Cops with crates of beer and cider.
Zama says on Saturday afternoon, officers searched two flats at Corrie Court amid complaints from neighbours that the duo were selling booze illegally.
At the first flat, cops arrested a 34-year-old man after he was found with two boxes of Fifth Street Rose and 124 bottles of beers and ciders.
“At the second flat, officers arrested a 26-year-old woman who was found with 36 Castle Lagers, 13 Black Labels, five bottles of Redds and she also had Amarula,” he says.
RAN SMOKKIE: Shebeen queen.
“The woman paid an admission of guilt fine of R1000 while the male suspect has to appear in Athlone Magistrates’ Court [Monday].
“We warned that we are not going to tolerate illegal liquor dealers using council property to sell booze this festive season.
“Operations like this will continue throughout the summer holidays.”
