Sewage ruins sop kombuis

A Mitchells Plain mom who runs a feeding scheme from her home says she is naar of the stench of poo flowing from a broken drain onto her property.
Vanessa Pietersen is now forced to cook and feed at a neighbour’s house.
The upset woman, who runs Mercy Meals in Korhaan Street three days a week, says the trouble started on 10 September and she notified the council immediately.
She says: “A truck from the City of Cape Town was here on Tuesday to assess the problem but told me they can’t do anything about it and left. How am I supposed to solve this issue if the City’s workers can’t even do it?
“My neighbours down the road have asked me to sort the problem because the water is running from my house into the road and causing a stink in front of their homes.”
Vanessa says the poo water flooded her house.
“I have two drains on my property, and both were blocked. My furniture stinks, I had to wash it off.
“I also had to cancel my husband’s birthday party for Saturday because our entertainment area is stinky and dirty.”
She says it’s been a k** week and she’s gatvol of it: “This happens all the time and the council once said they would put a camera in the drain to see where the problem is, but that never happened.”
The City did not respond to queries.
