The man accused of raping and murdering six-year-old Delvina Europa from Bredasdorp is re-applying for bail.
In April, Reagan Zietsman, 35 abandoned his bail application at the Bredasdorp Magistrates’ Court.
But yesterday Zietsman changed his mind unexpectedly and brought a new application.
This was confirmed by Eric Ntabazalila, Regional Communications Manager for the National Prosecuting Authority.
“The case against Reagan Zietsman has been postponed to 26 June for a bail application he has revived,” he said.
Delvina was taken into the care of her maternal aunt, Carol October, in December 2018, after her mother passed away.
The little girl, who was in Grade 1 at Elim Moravian Primary School, was last seen by Carol on 24 March while playing in front of a neighbour’s home in Nuwestraat in Elim.
Delvina was reported missing on Monday, 25 March, according to police, and a search was launched by cops.
On the Tuesday morning her lifeless body was found in a bush in Elim, close to Bredasdorp.
Authorities have yet to reveal how the little girl died.
Zietsman is known to the family and lives close to their home in Bredasdorp.
Delvina was a cousin of 11-year-old Stacha Arendse of Mitchells Plain, who was also raped, killed and her body dumped in 2017.
Stacha’s neighbour Randy Tango was convicted and sentenced to three life terms.
