Cops are looking for a young woman who is accused of abandoning her baby at a train station.
The Bellville Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit are asking for assistance from the public regarding the missing Mfuleni woman who allegedly left the one-year-old child at the Bellville Railway Station on 11 July.
Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joseph Witbooi said they are in search of 21-year-old Lisa Xala who, according to reports, last stayed in Tokwana Street in Mfuleni.
“According to reports, a 15- month-old baby was found abandoned at the Bellville Railway Station on Sunday July 11 at about 4pm by a security guard,” he says.
“The baby was taken to Bellville SAPS, where a case of child abandonment was registered for further investigation.
“The mentioned person of interest is believed to be in the Mfuleni area, while the investigating officer is also following up on information that she might be hiding near the Langa area.”
When the Daily Voice went to Tokwana Street, we were unable to pinpoint Lisa’s family or exact address while they were unable to confirm the last time she was seen in the area.
A female resident, who did not want to be named, said: “You used to see her around here but you never knew where she lived because she was always just around. There are people looking for her but I do not know if they are her family or not.”
Anyone with information regarding Lisa’s whereabouts is urged to call 08600 10111 or Detective Warrant Officer Jaftha on 082 522 1095.
