Days after a mosque was burgled and vandalised in Rocklands, Mitchells Plain, a nearby church also fell victim to evil skelms on Tuesday.
Orion Church International, on the corner of Caravelle and Impala streets, was vandalised and robbed early on Monday morning by four boewe who made off with a computer and a back-up hard drive.
The four men were spotted by the caretaker, who lives on the premises, as they escaped.
They entered the church through the roof and broke several doors and gates.
A disgusted church administrator, Charles Olckers, says: “The alarm went off, and the caretaker was alerted and he called me to come. We went to the police immediately.
“I went into the community and spoke to people, asking them to try and find out who would commit such a disgusting act, but nobody had any answers.”
He called on the community to piemp the skelms who desecrate places of worship.
“The other night they broke in at the mosque. Morals, ethics and common decency are things of the past. The young men who do these things are the same people whose parents get food for them here at our church,” he says.
“The computer contained the church records and had not backed up completely, so we lost valuable information. We leave them in God’s hands.”
Al Masjiedoeth Thaanie in Spine Road was burgled on Saturday when thugs bent a security gate from the bottom up to gain access to offices.
A computer, sound equipment, two-way radios, a video camera and money was stolen.
Spokesperson, Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana, says no arrests have been made in either cases.
